Upgrades can increase the power of a piece of gear and sometimes even its extras. The value of these upgrades is determined by the gear's tiers, their requirements and how many random augmentations are applied.

The most powerful racial Shield Razortail for instance, is frequently upgraded to enhance its lightning absorption function in PvP or add additional defenses to missile-based build in the PvM. This makes it more exchangeable over the unupgraded version.

Reroll Tokens

Requirements

Upgrades to items give players the ability to boost certain stats of weapons and armor that they currently own. The requirements for upgrading an item will differ depending on the type of item, but you'll typically need Dilithium as well as an amount of Upgrade tokens.

Upgrades can be beneficial for certain items, but not because they boost stats. They are more valuable to players if they can get the perfect roll. For instance, a perfectly rolled 200/6 504 armor set piece is highly valued in the melee PvP community and can be worth 20-50x the non-upp'd version.

The game will display the requirements once you choose the upgrade component that goes into the item. These include the item type (either weapon or armor), the level of the item, the Upgrade Token required, and the amount of progress needed to complete the upgrade.

The game will place an item in your inventory when you have completed the prerequisites for an upgrade. The progress bar will then change to show how close you are towards finishing the upgrade.
