With your kubb set in hand, you must mark the playing field (or pitch) using corner pins. Then, each team sets up its five kubbs, placing them at even intervals at the far ends of the pitch, on the baselines between the corner pins. Once the field kubbs are down, the Lannisters may go after the Starks' baseline kubbs, and if successful, may then attack the king. Let's say the Lannisters throw all of their batons and some of the Starks' field kubbs are still standing. Suffice it to say that the stakes in modern day kubb are not quite so chilling. It's said that the king used kubb as a way to resolve disagreements between various factions across his lands. But you don't have to travel all the way to Sweden to develop a taste for this blocky diversion. To win a game of 10-ball pool, a player must legally pocket the 10-ball. However, this can only be done after all preceding balls have been pocketed in the correct sequence. If the balls are disturbed, the rules of the game may require them to be replaced where they were.

If the cue ball or object ball is barely outside the marked rack area and it is time to rack, the referee should mark the position of the ball to allow it to be accurately replaced if it is accidently moved by the referee when racking. If you miss your pocket on a legal shot, the next player just plays the cue ball from that spot. On the break from the left, the player then plays the right pocket and vice versa. A »normal« foul (e.g. cue ball pocketed) is penalized with only one minus point and cannot result in a new break. By hitting different parts of the cue ball (center, top, bottom, sides), you can influence its movement and behavior after striking the object ball. The table is covered with a high-quality felt, designed to ensure smooth ball movement and accurate shots. Both surfaces that can make contact with the table-cloth when moving loaded rack to and fro, should be very smooth in order not to incur any damage to the cloth underneath. Like 9 ball, you can make combination shots, as long as you hit the low ball first, or carom shots.

If this is occupied by the object ball, the cue ball is placed on the center spot. If the cue ball remains on the table when a foul occurs, the other player must take over the situation as he finds it. Balls that jump off the table or are pocketed in the course of a foul are put back on. 1/8th of the length of the table measured from nose to nose on the cushions. The only restriction is that the penalty kubb must be at least one baton length from the king or the corner markers. A penalty kubb presents an interesting opportunity for the defending team, because they can place this kubb wherever they like. Place the 2 and 3 balls in the corner. For example, it can be agreed that one player needs his eight balls normally to win, but the other only needs six (8-6) or the better player even needs to pocket more balls (e.g. 10-6). If more than the 15 available balls are needed to reach the draw goals, the player with the higher goal must re-set pocketed balls at the end of his shot until the goal is reachable for both players.

It is a key responsibility of the World Pool Association (WPA) at an international level, for its members the six Continental Federations (CFs) at a continental level and for its National Federations (NFs) at a national level. In championship play, there are normally six players per team. In the WPA World Championships, there may be a further appeal to the WPA Sports Director, if he is present. The world championship tournament is held annually (more or less -- the dates aren't always exact) in Gotland. In championship rules, the pitch measures 8 meters (26.2 feet) long by 5 meters (16.4 feet) wide. In the most basic version of the game, toppled kubbs are removed from the pitch as they fall, until the king is finally taken down. You can establish your pitch nearly anywhere. In informal play, there can be any number of team members in each team. If there is no foul and a ball is pocketed, the player continues his turn, otherwise the shot changes. The remaining object ball and the cue ball remain in the positions where they came to rest after the last shot and the player may continue the game. 14.1 Continuous Pool, also known as straight pool, is played with fifteen numbered balls and the cue ball.
